“End of May or early June, this picture perfect afternoon we shared.”
June was such a rollercoaster month. I didn’t do as much reading as I would have liked (because, life) but I thoroughly enjoyed what I did end up reading. I only saw one movie last month, but I did become obsessed with another Broadway musical, bought what is now a favourite winter accessory, got new glasses and fell in love with yellow nail polish.
Wonder Woman Soundtrack
After seeing the AH-MAZING movie, I listened to the soundtrack non-stop for at least a week. My favourite track is No Man’s Land, which is no surprise as it’s the most kick-butt part of the movie.
Is it really a monthly highlights without the mention of a new musical? The Broadway Anastasia recording dropped in June and I was ALL over it. Listening to this musical takes me on an epic adventure. There’s mystery, romance, history and some incredible vocal performances. Favourite songs: A Rumour in St Petersburg (I love a good full cast number), In My Dreams, Learn to Do It, My Petersburg, In a Crowd of Thousands, Stay, I Pray You —
And I’m going to stop there because I might just end up listing every single song.
Jake Bugg is an old favourite, but a classic one. His music is so nostalgic and listening to his first two albums (we’ll pretend the third one doesn’t exist, shall we?) is an instant source of happiness. Favourite songs: Two Fingers, Note to Self, Someone Told Me, Simple as This.
The majority of last month was spent reading the insanely huge and amazing Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. But as I haven’t quite finished yet, you will have to wait to hear my full thoughts in a few weeks.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did. This is a coming-of-age novel about two Mexican boys navigating identity, race, family, friendship and sexuality. If you loved the movie, Moonlight then this is something you will probably enjoy.
Anne’s House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery
Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favourite books. This is the fourth or fifth book in the series (I’m not entirely sure) and while it follows a much older Anne and takes on a darker tone, I still felt the whimsy and sunshine quality of the previous books shining through.
Watch Me Wednesday
I am an absolute theatre enthusiast (if you didn’t already know), and Carrie’s behind the scenes vlogs of The Addams Family UK tour are wonderful.
Worst. Show. Ever. So why have I decided to mention it? I know EVERYONE seems to be obsessed with Riverdale (and I can totally see why) but wow, I just can’t get over how terrible it is. HOWEVER, my friend and I started watching it as a bit of light entertainment and found that there’s something about watching and making fun of it.
AH this movie was just so much fun! It was funny and empowering and I loved watching Gal Gadot kick ass. Chris Pine was also great and I have dying to see it again. So proud that we finally have an amazing female superhero movie.
The Wives of Henry the Eighth
I love history and this three-part documentary was so informative and interesting. I learnt SO much, especially about some of the lesser known wives.
Game of Thrones Season 6
Stop everything because I have finally caught up on Game of Thrones. This has been a year long venture for me and I would like to thank everyone for their support during this time. Very excited for the final seasons!
This fur jacket has become my favourite article of clothing that I own. (Big statement, I know.) It’s classy but modern; warm without being too warm; and makes me feel like a crossover between Natasha from The Great Comet and the Princess Anastasia.
Fair to say I will be wearing this quite a bit over winter.
And that was June! I did also listen to Lorde’s new album which I loved but I don’t have too much to say about it. Next month I am seeing a production of Macbeth, looking forward to Haim’s new album and will be finishing up Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare.
